続・UFO報告書

5月9日のエントリで書いたとおり、英国防省から「UFO報告書」の内容が明らかにされた。

The MOD has today published the results of a once-highly-classified official investigation into the existence of Unidentified Flying Objects. The report concludes that UFOs exist - but are a mixture of natural and-man-made phenomena, rather than evidence of extraterrestrial life.

「レポートはUFOは存在すると結論付けた。──ただしそれは、地球外生命体の存在する証拠というより、自然現象および人為現象が絡まりあったものである。」
…ということで、上記リンク先の文章によると、今回の英国防省による発表は、UFO／エイリアン論争の文脈ではなく、政府に対する情報開示の働きかけが成功した例として、英国ではトピックスになっているようだ。

とはいえ注目を集めた話題ではあったようで、こんな風にも書かれている。

There is a real an enduring interest in Unidentified Flying Objects. By far the most popular topics of FOI requests has been UFOs, followed by Recruitment enquiries; enquiries from staff; and historical events such as World War Two, the Falklands conflict and the Balkans. Recent FOI MoD releases on UFOs have attracted media interest from as far away as Japan.

というか日本が一番大騒ぎしていたのでは？
